What is STRANGER THAN HEAVEN?
STRANGER THAN HEAVEN is an action-adventure game from RGG Studio, the studio behind the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, published by SEGA. It follows Makoto Daito, a Japanese-American orphan who stows away from San Francisco to Japan in 1915, across a fifty-year struggle to find a home.

How does the dual-side combat system work?+
STRANGER THAN HEAVEN lets you control Makoto's left and right body sides independently. You can block with one hand while countering with the other, chain jabs into charged crushing blows, tackle staggered enemies and pin them for ground-and-pound. Each limb works like a separate fighter, which makes fights feel like a 2-on-1 brawl.
What is the Showman system?+
The Showman system is Makoto's showbiz career. You scout singers and performers through street rumors, collect ambient sounds like brooms and trains to compose original tracks, then design the setlist, band, cast, lighting and staging for nationwide shows. It is the musical counterpart to the violent street combat and one of the game's two core loops.
How do the five eras and cities work?+
The 50-year saga spans 1915 Kokura, 1929 Kure, 1943 Minami Osaka, 1951 Atami and 1965 Shinjuku. Each era is a fully modeled city inspired by real Japanese locations, and the world changes visually and narratively as you move through history. SEGA says "persuasive lies take priority over historical accuracy" when recreating each period.
Is STRANGER THAN HEAVEN connected to Like a Dragon?+
Yes — STRANGER THAN HEAVEN is a distant prequel to the Like a Dragon (Yakuza) franchise. It depicts the rise of the yakuza world and the origins of the Tojo Clan, decades before the modern series begins. Fans of the series will find familiar clan names and thematic DNA, though the game stands alone as its own story.

STRANGER THAN HEAVEN releases on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 (PS5 Pro Enhanced) and Xbox Series X/S on January 15, 2027. It is a single-player action-adventure game with full controller support and a single multilingual soundtrack that switches language by scene context.
What comes in each edition?+
The Standard Edition is the base game. The Deluxe Edition adds the original outfit, a set of 4 new weapons, skilled performers, stage production items, a special poster, a record player and an electronic camera. The Collector's Edition is a physical PS5 version that includes the Deluxe upgrade plus a vinyl record, steelbook and special box.
